Concert
Remember the phenomenal success of our Cuban Festival with Rumba Caliente last October? Phil Alexander, keyboard player with that band, returns this year with his own amazing band Moishe's Bagel for a fantastic family event of music, dance and food.
Moishe's Bagel is becoming hugely successful and Angus Arts is thrilled to be able to welcome them to the Fettercairn Hall for an afternoon dance workshop and an unforgettable evening.
Their brilliant music is an astonishing mix of styles and sounds: rip-roaring, toe-tapping, jazz-influenced klezmer and Balkan music from some of Scotland's finest musicians. An intoxicating mix of Eastern European dance music, Middle-Eastern rhythms and virtuoso performances, Moishe's Bagel brings passion, soul and irresistible energy to Jewish world music. Traditional music as you've never heard it, as well as startling original compositions and improvisations.
Formed in Edinburgh in 2003, Moishe's Bagel is Scotland's finest shtetl orchestra. Combining the energy of Eastern European folk music with the excitement of improvisation, and boasting some of the best instrumentalists that Scotland has to offer (Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Salsa Celtica, Celtic Feet, Mr McFall's Chamber) Moishe's Bagel is a sound like no other.
In true Angus Arts style this will be an amazing event which people of all ages can enjoy together. Bring a bottle and a bagel and we will fill it (the bagel!) with some delicious fillings.
"exhilarating, full-flavoured stuff, often
breath-takingly intricate but played
with jubilation...the Bagel acquires
the momentum of an express train"
The Herald
"one of the most moving musical
experiences of my life...the audience
were blown away by the performance"
Round & About Mull
"expressive and raunchy...
improvising confidence but with a
classical attention to detail...striking
new material"
The Guardian
"fabulous neo-klezmer ...a
wicked sense of humour and
massive chops that extend to Scots
music, Latin and well beyond -
they're going to go places"
