Concert
This astonishing chamber group has built a reputation as the finest in Scotland, touring Britain and abroad and broadcasting regularly on BBC Radio 3. This Summer the Ensemble has enjoyed a sell out appearance at The Queen's Hall as part of the Edinburgh International Festival. The Ensemble has commissioned new works from over forty acclaimed composers including Nigel Osbourne and Sally Beamish and its recent CD of music by Lyell Cresswell has received worldwide critical acclaim.
The Ensemble's artistic director, William Conway, has been given the Composer's Society Award for an outstanding contribution to the promotion of contemporary music.
Tonight’s concert is part of the North East’s new Sound Festival and it will feature the extraordinary 20th century masterpiece Olivier Messiaen's 'Quartet For The End Of Time', with a short introduction about the composer and his fascinating ideas. Messiaen was 'synesthetic' - he could see certain colours when he heard certain sounds. With a sophisticated and subtle use of lights, this special performance on the Hebrides' tour will be enhanced with the relevant colours.
The afternoon's music workshop will be a wonderful chance for people of all ages to find out more about this unique and fascinating piece of music, bringing them extra enjoyment in hearing the performance.
